How are my Paperang photos now? + thermal papers dos and donts

I honestly couldn’t believe that my first post about Paperang already reached thousands of unique viewers (and still counting!), to think that I didn’t promote it too much or whatsoever. I earned almost all of the views from Google search, and thank God I am reaching you guys with no SEO upgrade. Lol

Well, here’s another update from my previous post, and also one of the frequently-asked questions about the pocket thermal printer: do Paperang print-outs last?

Questions from readers:

Do Paperang print-outs last? For how long?

I used to print images and quotes and memos with my Paperang printer. And one thing for sure, thermal printers – in general, no matter the brand – do not last for long. Thermal printers use friction, and thermal papers are heat sensitive. That’s why when we play write-on-it-with-our nails (I’m not sure if you did this, but I did, copying the cashiers at the malls. Lol.), we can actually create lines. Tadaaa! So when the created heat turns cold (like love and affection), the prints fade. So to answer your question, they don’t last long. My prints were clear for two-three months the most.

No filters and edits except from the pixels because it’s just now that I realized I am sharing too much from a personal diary. But this one’s the updated pic of the cover photo of this post.

I think people has been asking for like three months already and I promised to post another update. Sorry, it took that long. If you’ve been reading my previous personal posts, I’ve mentioned stuff I’m currently engaged with. It’s just, well, last night, when I had the chance to take pictures of my journal’s pages. I don’t even have time yet to write there yet!

Well. There’s my update. THEY FADE. It’s been a good seven-month relationship, though. But of course, I wouldn’t want to you to finish reading this post with disappointment or a frown on the face. Let’s admit it, we all saw this coming. So here are some tips I’ve got from different articles and people around the web on how to take good care of your thermal photo print-outs.

Questions from readers:

What should I do to make the print-outs last longer?

I haven’t learned how to make the print outs lasts. Though some users suggest other brands of thermal paper, I still have doubts if a print-out can truly last for at least a year. The minimum, I think would be a couple of months. However, here are some tips that may help to slow down the fading of thermal print-outs.
  1. Excessive heat will cause your thermal paper to turn gray at best or turn completely black and illegible at worst. You should always store your thermal paper receipts away from heat sources.
  2. Do not laminate it.
  3. Do not put transparent tape.
  4. Avoid oils and liquids. Like any paper, liquids and especially oils will degrade the paper itself. In the case of oils, they will react with the coating on the paper and discolor it.
  5. Purchase original thermal paper with extra coating. The extra coating protects the original coating from reacting to heat and chemicals, thus preserving your printouts.
  6. Place your thermal papers in a safe place and avoid friction on its surface because it scratches the coating and may damage the image and fading may occur.
Honestly not sure if these really helps. If you have a genius idea, PLEASE COMMENT IT BELOW! Help me, and help thousands of people. Thank you in advance!

Hi! May I know what kind of thermal paper you’ve used? I saw some thermal papers in shopee advertising that they last 10 years and sticker thermal papers that last 20 years. Were you able to try those? 🙂 Thanks!

Hello! I use thermal sticker papers from Paperang. The paper last, but the print doesn’t. I just realized the trick now. But of course, no matter how you store it, time will eventually make the print fade. Sadly, thermal print-outs doesn’t last long. Thermal printers help us on getting what we need real-time, but not for journaling or collecting photos. They really fade.

Hi there! I use the thermal sticker paper and I am wondering how long they will last. I use the printer for printing out quotes in my journal (so no pictures). Thank you!

Hi, Samantha! Mine didn’t go beyond three months. But it was fun using the printer, though! It’s not just for journaling or any kind of long-term documentation.

Hello! Did you try some 10years thermal paper yet? I hope planning to get one if it is really legit.

  • themhayonnaise

Hi! I did. Even the Paperang brand. The print still fades, though. Not sure if it was because of my storage? Will probably consider that.

I asked one an journal Instagrammer, and she says transparent thermal papers are good. Will check it as well.

Hi! I don’t know if it will be useful hehe but when I used to work in a corporate world, we photocopied receipts printed in thermal to last long. 🙂

Anyway, I found your blog while looking for Paperang printer review. 🙂

Do you know this journal instagrammers IG? I’d like to see if there’s also a review or some print examples. Just recently bought the Paperangprint 2 only to find your review a few days after… I’ve been hearing good stuff about the Phomemo clear paper which they claim to last “forever”.. I wonder how one can prove forever if forever has not been long enough lol These paper printing companies love to talk big

    Thank you

i saw a comment from youtube, the guy said stick it with transparent tape on top of the print, it will stick the print.

I haven’t got my hand on one yet.. but is it possible to trace the printed quotes with pen? Then at least even it fades, there’s outlines left behind haha..

I’m pretty sure that I’ve been following your blog for quite a while now.. but apparently I found this blog post on the web and asked me to follow agian. 😥
Anyways…my sister just got a paperang and I think I also found out that paperang mentioned that the longevity of a print depends on the paper… And they claim to have 1-10 years…(wow 10 years). They say avoid having it exposed and don’t put them on plastics… I find it really cute but I wished that is inked..

Yeah, I deleted and re-launched my blog like three times already. Haha Thanks for following though. Yep, I bought the 10-year thermal paper but the print didn’t last for even a year as well. Still haven’t figured out how to make it last lol

Hello. Saw this just now so I just want to share my experience also.

I bought paperang cuz I was always a fan of black & white pics and really looking forward to using the film thermal paper, but guess what? Every pics I printed using the regular and film paper faded BUT not the pics printed on the thermal paper freebie from when I bought the Paperang.

So up until now, I kept browsing the web looking for answers if it’s just me or what. Cuz I was really curious about the freebie thermal paper although it looked just like same with the regular thermal paper. Haven’t had the chance to use the colors pink and blue though. And by the way, I ordered mine just on Shopee.

Will attach the pics later when I’m home.

Thank you for explaining that thermal paper will turn gray with excessive heat. My friend wants to buy a Zebra thermal printer. I should advise her to look for a store that offers Zebra thermal printers for sale.
