Happy fathers’ day to single moms?
Here we are again, it’s fathers’ day! In this article, I talked about an unpopular opinion about fathers’ day. If we have different opinions, please let’s have a healthy discussion about it and avoid uncomfortable, unhealthy debate. Happy fathers’ day to all fathers and to single moms!
But how do we define “father”, by the way? Maybe we define the word in different ways and that’s okay, as what we do with most words. That’s probably why we have these conflicting opinions about stuff, and while we wish for people to be sensitive about how we feel, why can’t we be more sensitive as well about how other people feel?
Why you shouldn't greet a single mom happy fathers' day?
So was scrolling through Google search to find some inspirations for this blog post be more informative and apparently, a loooot of “No to happy fathers’ day to single moms” are on the top searches.
I’ve read a good number of articles why you shouldn’t greet a single mom “Happy Fathers’ Day”, and one of the common reasons is that it affects the “masculinity” of men in some way. No hate, but I honestly do not understand why not taking responsibilities affect their masculinity instead. Not all single moms steal fathers’ day, but some fathers give that away. As a single mom, I want to congratulate myself for having the balls to make it through without a partner.
On the other hand, I may agree with the reason I cannot take the place of my daughters’ father, because real talk, he’s still the father. And that’s the reason why we’re okay, and I also greet him happy fathers’ day.Â
I didn’t realize this is such a hot discussion online until I saw those articles and podcasts, but hey, there’s my two cents.
Celebrating fathers' day in 2020
As usual, we had a small celebration on fathers’ day. We are fully aware of all the scary things happening outside, but we don’t want to do nothing to make ourselves smile a little. It’s difficult to “celebrate” and greet people online, but here I we are again trying to be and feel normal because life goes on and we need to move forward. So we prepared food! We thank God for the privilege we have having good food to share and good health. And we would like to extend help to other families as well, whenever we can.
These two are the family must-haves no matter the occasion is and no matter how little or big the celebration is. Home-made tempura and baked mac are our favorites since forever that these are two of the first recipes I knew growing up.
I also made purchase (again!) from Pepper Bakes my newest favorite cookies! Plus, IÂ also got to try their newest product – the Big Bad Cookies that are just the same delicious taste but better because they’re big (yep, size matters especially on food servings!) and bigger cookie means more chocolate chips! Thanks also to Nicole for sending over a cute fathers’ day gift!
By the way, I knew I was gonna love their chocolate dreamcake so the 500Php was super worth it! Good thing people at home are not the biggest fans of dreamcakes so hello to a curvier May!
