Negros Occidental must-visit: Campuestohan Highland Resort
I’m super happy I finally got to experience Campuestohan Highland Resort – one of the most-famous spots in Negros Occidental for both local and tourists! See that hobbit house? I know you’re already familiar with that. Thanks to Facebook!
Whenever you’re going on a trip, you usually Google where to go or what to do around your destination before actually going. That’s good practice. However, I sometimes like having a rough outline on where to go then see on that actual day what is the best nearby place to visit. Like for our BIGG (Bacolod, Iloilo, Guimaras, Gigantes) trip we knew we were touring around BIGG but we did’t have a list of specific places to go. Until we saw Campuestohan on the internet.
Hey there! My name’s May and you can view more about me here. I travel a lot for both work and leisure. Thanks to being an auditor and a content creator and, of course, to my love for travel, I barely feel I’m actually at work when traveling. And if I’m actually off work, I usually am with friends or family, discovering places and trying out new food. I’m juggling three jobs – the two mentioned + being a single mom. You think it’s easy? Of course not! But what glues me together is my passion and love for these three. More about my story here.
I love sharing what I know and how I do things, so if you haven’t read these yet, visit the following pages to view:
- how I take and edit my blog photos + what devices and apps I use;
- how I plan my travels;
- how I treat my sunburns (from the mildest to the wildest!); and
- what do I get from traveling, by the way?

About Campuestohan Highland Resort
Campuestohan Highland Resort became a tourist spot after it was opened to public in 2014. It is an amusement park and resort of 5.5 hectares. It features adventure rides, obstacle courses, other leisure activities, and a selection of accommodation types for visitors who would like to try staying overnight at Campuestohan.
Going there reminded me of Tagaytay, only a greener version. Campuestohan is elevated at 800+ meters above sea level (vs. Tagaytay at around 600+ meters), I really enjoyed the climate, plus it was also raining so it mis much more cooler than how we are doing here in Manila (or in Tagaytay, probably).
What to see in Campuestohan Highland Resort
These cute and Instagram-worthy cottages and rooms
Our trip was only for a day and we didn’t rent a cottage or a table or something. Though available, we chose to spend most of the time roaming around the area to appreciate more and take pictures of them.
Campuestohan is famous for their hobbit houses, but here’s another cute private cottage you can rent for a night or more. (See below pic!) This part though is called the Indian Village. Oh, these cute houses make me wish they’d add more houses with different types of native architecture there. *crossed fingers*
Fun Dino Park
Another spot here that I loved is Ram’s Dino Park! Some of them are moving, by the way, which makes it more boomerang-able if there’s such a word. Look how cute they are!
Children’s playground and Hanging bridge
And of course, the swimming pools!
Pre-travel Guide
How to get there?
Bacolod isn’t really the first place people would want to list in their top to-go list. Due to lower demands, domestic flights to Bacolod are cheaper compared to the most-visited municipalities and/or provinces.
Bacolod is just 45-minute plane ride away from Metro Manila. Airlines such as Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and Air Asia offers daily flights to Bacolod-Silay Airport which isonly 20-minutes away from Bacolod City.
From the airport, you will need to ride at least a tricycle to Circumferencial Rd. Or you can ride a jeep to Lopue’s East. Landmark is iMart.
From there, shuttle services from Campuestohan Highland Resort are available and they have trips every hour for P600* per trip. (View latest rates here.) If you catch the bus (or jeepney), you may notice you’re driving too slow, but better safe than sorry, right? We were laughing deep inside, tbh, but I realized the road was a slope so okay gets! The road up there is quite steep and curves are sharper than they seem. But again, the slower, the safer!
Bigger groups can rent Campuestohan’s 15-seater Nissan Urvan for a round trip fee of P1,500* (day trip) or P2,000* (overnight). If you are going with a private car, the Bacolod Reservation Office can help you navigate. And take extra care driving up the slope!
*rates are as of January 2020.
How much would the trip cost?
It’s not very costly, I would say. For a day trip fee of P200* per head, you can already take unlimited pictures inside the resort, free use of swimming pools (they have two pools big enough for the visitors, btw), and enjoy an afternoon picnic if the weather permits. You can also rent daytime accommodations fro as low as P500*.
Overnight guests can choose among Campuestohan’s accommodation options. Room rates already include breakfast. Better check their website for the most updated rates. Campuestohan also accommodate guests who wish to camp there, for P350* per person per night so you can pitch your colorful tents between 5pm to 6am. Not bad, huh?
*rates are as of January 2020.
When is the best day/season to visit?
It’s always ideal to go to a resort during summer days. But as for me, I really enjoyed Campuestohan with rain. It was a bit rainy when we got there, but the weather made me appreciate more the hobbit feels. So basically, you can visit Campuestohan Highland Resort anytime within the year.
Wrap-up
This fun and family-friendly resort is definitely one of the places in Bacolod I would want to visit again. It’s sad I had no enough time to explore more of the resort, but I will definitely spend a night here when I get back!
Campuestohan Highland Resort is located at Brgy. Cabatangan, Talisay City. Contact them and book your tickets at +63-34 702 0964 / +63-915 211 1406 / +63-917 300 5007.Â
