And I missed this – Recovery Food
It’s just now that I thought of visiting their website and I learned Recovery Food started with people who enjoyed few bottles alcohol then went looking for some comfort food in an ungodly hour and apparently, they didn’t have anywhere else to go aside from a convenience store or reheated food. Oh I can relate. I’ve been drunk, mostly angry and sleepy and tired after some alcohol, but sometimes, I crave for some comfort food, too, and I hate it when I cannot have a plate of something I want to eat for like as soon as possible.
Hey there! My name’s May and you can view more about me here. I travel a lot for both work and leisure. Thanks to being an auditor and a content creator and, of course, to my love for travel, I barely feel I’m actually at work when traveling. And if I’m actually off work, I usually am with friends or family, discovering places and trying out new food. I’m juggling three jobs – the two mentioned + being a single mom. You think it’s easy? Of course not! But what glues me together is my passion and love for these three. More about my story here.
I love sharing what I know and how I do things, so if you haven’t read these yet, visit the following pages to view:
Just recently, I went out to meet with my friends to ~safely~ plan our ~safe~ staycation with the whole barkada and my boyfriend and I got there a little too early so we needed some lunch and I immediately thought of Recovery Food. Few of their best-sellers are these all-day breakfast meals and if you know me, sisig is my all-time game.
As part of the appetizer, and I mean our only appetizer (tough days!) we got a serving of Tokwa’t LK a.k.a. tokwa’t lecheng kawali. And while “leche” means milk in Spanish, it’s also some kind of a not-so-good word in Filipino so, honestly, all this time I thought it was just a typo in the menu but apparently it’s actually leche and whatever. I love it forever but don’t worry, I don’t eat lecheng kawali too often. It’s super crispy, really perfect with or without the dip. Even the fried tofu was perfect. but what I hated about it is it’s too little and if I didn’t get a sisig I might be getting another order.
Jov got a Liempo, as what he always had when we eat in a restaurant that offers breakfast meals. And as I always do as well, I had some and I also loved it. It’s my first time to taste this dish so I thought the dip would be the usual Pinoy dip for liempo – spiced vinegar, but they gave us gravy. GRAVY. You can always request for suka but I looooove gravy so managed and crispiness of the liempo made it really, really good. I love the garlic brown rice plus the egg was perfectly malasado.
It was already past noon, but I felt I was really having breakfast in the morning. I’m not sure if that makes sense, but I’m in IF and I only have breakfast in the weekends (IF is not for everyone, by the way!!!), so I miss it. Aside from being in love with sizzling plates, it’s also one of the reasons why I love “breakfast” restaurants. And what’s my go-to breakfast meal? Sisig.
My parents are not fans of sisig, and since I don’t cook complicated dishes, I only eat sisig when we go outside. Sisig is my go-to breakfast meals and I got one again this time! I’m probably listing my sisig favorites soon, no?
Doc Sisig is one of the Rice-A-Bowls meals in RF and probably one of the best sellers as well. Pinoys love sisig. It’s perfect with fried garlic rice either white or brown and even as pulutan. The irony of being a hangover recovery food, ha!
Now that I am finally having the chance to re-fuel my food blogging and over-all creativity again, I knew I have to revisit my favorite restaurants and try again my favorite dishes and even try more and explore more outside. Of course, with limits and following safety protocols. COVID is still there, and still very scary, but thanks to our healthcare professionals who work really hard to control the spread. It’s time we pay back and help them by having the discipline, practicing the recommendations, following rules and laws, and getting the vaccine shots! Or if you, for whatever reason, cannot, limit your physical interaction with people outside your household, stranger or not.
The yummy dishes by Recovery Food are not just for people with hangover. I haven't been there drunk, tbh. LOL. But we looooove sinful, deep fried meals and it's not that bad when you have it in control. How about you? How do you protect your diet? What's our "comfort" food, aside from fatty sisig and lecheng kawali?
