Before chapter one, there's one page that says some apparently a act from an old version of a dictionary - Oxford English Dictionary, compact edition, 1971. Even if you're not a housewife, (I am not either) it's triggering a not-so-good mood but an effective way to turn the page and get on with your reading. The thought-proving parts of any book are one super effective way to make its readers invested and actually finish the book, whether they liked it or not.
