Book Reviews,  Things Worth Sharing

Book Haul: 13 new books on my shelf that I won’t read anyways (or at least not yet)

I bought books and I’m not reading them. Not yet. I mean who does? We buy books to throw them somewhere at home. You’re fortunate if you have a beautiful shelf, but in my case, I have this empty drawer and so I made them full. Or at least almost.

I’m not reading these books because I have a long list of TBR before the year ends and to be honest I don’t know if I can finish actually them in two months. So maybe expect more reading vlogs featuring 2021 book trends on the first quarter of 2022. But that’s okay. Books are forever.

The following books I bought from National Bookstore, Fully Booked, Booksale, and Chapters and Pages. By the way, I don’t have any idea about some of these books except from the first two so I’ll just read the synopsis from Goodreads. okay?

One Mountain Away by Emilie Richards. You probably have seen this already in my vlogs or the ongoing filming that I haven’t uploaded yet sorry about that. This book is following the story of Charlotte Hale, a woman of a good career. “Charlotte realizes that her friends are as grasping and insincere as she is. Far worse, she’s alienated her family so completely that she’s never held or spoken to her only granddaughter. Charlotte vows to make amends, not simply with her considerable wealth, but by offering a hand instead of a handout. Putting in hours and energy instead of putting in an appearance. Opening her home and heart instead of her wallet.” I have yet to finish this book, and I’m totally okay with it being my slow read, as it’s so good, I made it my “spiritual” escape whenever I need one. The Final Conflict by Kenneth Zeilger. A part of the series, Tears of Heaven. Fifth and final book, actually. Here’s the thing about thrifting and books on sale, they intend to sell a book which is part of a series at a loooow price so they can sell the other books in the same series. Wise, but I hate it. It makes me feel a little bit bitin especially when the story is good. But on the brighter side, I am introduced to more than one book and now my TBR on Goodreads is already 400+. I don’t have any idea about this book, but as I see, all books in the series are highly-rated and loved by many. Per one reviewer, “Zielger’s story is based on the spiritual principles and revelations recorded in the Bible. Dark Angels, strange flying creatures with stinging tails, technology from Heaven, telepathic links, wormholes, particle weapons, microchips implanted under the skin, and extreme weather conditions are all elements that all meld together in a spellbinding story of the final days of earth. “The Final Conflict” begins after the Rapture when those who were truly ready for God’s kingdom were taken from the earth. Now is the last chance for those remaining on the earth to escape an eternity in Hell.” Maybe I’ll read the first book first and complete the series properly. This is interesting. Ah. So many books too little time. That is always accurate. Here’s another book, also a part of a series and also the last book. I mean, wth, Booksale?? There a lot of unfamiliar words I don’t know how to pronounce, so I’ll just gonna skip this and move on.

When The Music’s Over by Peter Robinson. Another long-running series that is perfect if you have time. I genuinely wish I can have time with all of these books I have but anyways. The book follows a story after finding a body of a young girl in a remote countryside lane. Evidence suggests she was drugged, abused and thrown from a moving van – before being beaten to death. While DI Annie Cabbot investigates the circumstances in which a 14-year-old could possibly fall victim to such a crime, newly promoted Detective Superintendent Alan Banks must do the same – but the crime Banks is investigating is the coldest of cases. Fifty years ago Linda Palmer was attacked by celebrity entertainer Danny Caxton, yet no investigation ever took place. Now Caxton stands accused at the centre of a historical abuse investigation and it’s Banks’s first task as superintendent to find out the truth. As more women step forward with accounts of Caxton’s manipulation, Banks must piece together decades-old evidence. With his investigation uncovering things from the past that would rather stay hidden, he will be led down a path even darker than the one he set out to investigate… View on Goodreads >>

All But Normal, written by Shawn Thornton and Joel Kilpatrick. A heartwarming coming-of-age story, All But Normal is a powerful reminder that sometimes the “broken” people in our lives are the ones who need fixing the least. View on Goodreads >>

Dead Simple by Jon Land, which is a small book, I’m glad. It’s also a part of a series, though. The story is set on 1998: A tanker hauling a deadly new explosive vanishes without a trace in a raging storm…. That explosive falls into the hands of Jack “Terror” Tyrell. Now, he’s more determined than ever to realize his deadly vision: to lead a radical underground group that spreads its message via bombs and blood. Enter Blaine McCracken. McCracken seeks out his mentor, Sergeant Major Buck Torrey, to get his edge back after being wounded in a terrorist attack. But Torrey has disappeared. McCracken reconnoiters with beautiful Liz Halprin, Torrey’s daughter, and their hunt takes them on a perilous journey where secrets can be as deadly as bullets. McCracken and Halprin are hot on Jackie Terror’s tail, which brings them to Manhattan, where Terror’s going to hold seven million people hostage. View on Goodreads >>

The Rest of the Story by Sarah Dessen. Cute book, huh? It’s a hardbound copy I bought for 99. or 199 I can’t remember. Just like our protagonist, Emma Saylor. Emma doesn’t remember a lot about her mother, who died when she was ten. But she does remember the stories her mom told her about the big lake that went on forever, with cold, clear water and mossy trees at the edges. Now it’s just Emma and her dad, and life is good, if a little predictable…until Emma is unexpectedly sent to spend the summer with her mother’s family—her grandmother and cousins she hasn’t seen since she was a little girl. When Emma arrives at North Lake, she realizes there are actually two very different communities there. Her mother grew up in working class North Lake, while her dad spent summers in the wealthier Lake North resort. The more time Emma spends there, the more it starts to feel like she is divided into two people as well. To her father, she is Emma. But to her new family, she is Saylor, the name her mother always called her. Then there’s Roo, the boy who was her very best friend when she was little. Roo holds the key to her family’s history, and slowly, he helps her put the pieces together about her past. It’s hard not to get caught up in the magic of North Lake—and Saylor finds herself falling under Roo’s spell as well. For Saylor, it’s like a whole new world is opening up to her. But when it’s time to go back home, which side of her will win out? View on Goodreads >>

Now I know you’ve seen this already somewhere. Generation One from the Lorien Legacies Reborn Series. This is the first book. It’s a trilogy by Pittacus Lore, a sequel series to the Lorien Legacies, if you’re familiar with I am Number Four. Shame, I loved the movie, but…. The Lorien Legacies Reborn is a series of novels that take place after the events of United as One and are more about the Human Garde (LANEs) rather than the Loric. View on Goodreads >>
