Traveling around Philippines through Siglo Modern Filipino

One of the things I super love about Tagaytay is this wide options on where and what to eat. And as we age, the food and restaurant industry is becoming more and more creative – colorful stores, unique dishes, and more. Yet there also are some that stay with the classic and our forever favorites – Just like Siglo Modern Filipino.

Whenever my family and I go on a trip, as much as possible, we try restaurants that are unfamiliar to us. I know Siglo has been sitting there for years now and I’ve been hearing a lot about it but it was just now that I finally get to experience their food. And guess what – Siglo offers a looot more than Tagaytay faves. They offer dishes from all over Luzon ,Visayas, and Mindanao. Just so perfect for a fam who loooves traveling.

Upon entering, we already noticed the place is more than just a restaurant in Tagaytay. From it’s interiors, we knew they offer much more than we expected or even hoped for dinner. We just wanted the usual bulalo or tawilis like other Tagaytay restaurants are known for, but we got more than that.

The place is just as classic and colorful as any Pinoy home could be. From retro lamps, wooden furniture, and cozy ambiance, Pinoy na Pinoy talaga! It’s super cute as well for the photos if you’re into IG gaming. What I also loved was there’s power socket on each corner so I was able to charge my device. Woo! Not all restaurants have that!

The downside, though, was that they take too long to serve the food. I was super hungry when they finally arrived , but then I realized it’s just because they prepare it upon order. Pinoy food is known being okay and still yummy even when cold (or at least most Pinoy dishes are okay) but food served fresh from the fire is much yummier, you cannot deny it’s quality. So my boredom went away as I had bites from each dish. Sarap, bes! But seriously, expect longer waiting time if you dine in Siglo. Worth it naman, frienny. Plus their paper placemats have Pinoy puzzles, too, so there’s something you can do while waiting.

Must-haves:

  • Laing Bicolano – Indigenously rich and creamy dish made from taro leaves, minced pork and shrimp, chillies and coconut milk.
  • Siglo Crispy Pata – Deep fried pork trotters in classic soy vinegar dip.
  • Laing Dinamita – Fried pork and laing dumpling triangles.
  • Sinigang na Tiyan ng Bangus – Milkfish belly in sour tamarind broth.
