Fall in love with local art and artists as showcased by #ILOMOCA

I love all kinds of art. And one of my got-to places when visisting different cities or towns are museums.

Manila is home to many classic and modern museums, and honestly, I haven’t talked or written about them yet. I thought sharing of teh usual places is kind of overrated, but apparently, it may be usual to people in Manila, but not to people from different places.

I discovered ILOMOCA during my week-long vacay in B.I.G.G. Since I was there on the holidays (which also is a weekend), I haven’t seen the inside of teh museum as they were closed for public viewing on the days I was free to roam around the city. It honestly was very unfortunate because I was supposed to witness the beauty of one of the newest museums in Visayas and probably in the Philippines.

The Iloilo Museum for COntemporary Art or “ILOMOCA” officially opened to public on March 17, 2018. In partnership with Megaworld and Iloilo Business Park (IBP), the museum was said to be built with P110m for the construction alone. Art is indeed a price, huh?

Well, I think it’s all worth it. It is claimed to be the first institution in the Visayas region, dedicated to showcasing the works of modern and contemporary artist mostly Filipino and, of course, Ilonggo.

Take, for example, this one. “Off With Her Head”, sculpture by Daniel Dela Cruz. Part of Curiouser and Curiouser, this piece is an Alice in Wonderland-inspired. Okay, I’m starting to re-love Alice (I think I may be using The Mad Hatter as inspiration for an upcoming event.) More of his art is also recognized and featured in Town & Country, an online magazine featuring the finest things around the country.

If ever I have time to revisit Iloilo, ILOMOCA is one of the places I will have to make time for. Not on holidays, not on weekends. ILOMOCA is one of the many museums we all need to get inspired with.

Located at the Casa de Emperador in IBP, Mandurriao district, Iloilo City, ILOMOCA charges P100 for regular visitors, P80 for senior citizens, and P50 for students. The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 7pm.
